As Christians our faith is based upon a relationship with the living God, who seeks to use the out workings of our life to bring our hearts and minds to a closer and more intimate understanding of His love for us. Our life therefore is not a series of isolated events but is part of God’s plan and like all Christians throughout time we are pilgrims on a spiritual journey.

With confidence we can look back to events not only in our own lives but in those who have faithfully walked with God before us, to remind ourselves where we were and where God has lovingly lead us to. Often it is difficult to trace God’s hand in the events of our life but if we look back and recount his wonderful deeds we can see how His hand has lovingly been upon us and our hearts can praise Him.

We were once in darkness but through God’s grace, now know forgiveness of sins and life everlasting. God’s love and keeping do not end at the point of becoming a Christian but abide with us through this life, persevering to glory.

It can be difficult at times to consider the good God has done in our lives; often it is easier to remember our struggles. When however we are able to proclaim and praise God for His faithfulness we find our hearts are filled with a renewed appreciation of God’s goodness. As we look back we inevitably look forward to the promise that God will lead and guide us onward.

Psalm 63:6-8  When I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night;  for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.

Psalm 119:89-90 Forever, O LORD, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens. Your faithfulness endures to all generations; you have established the earth, and it stands fast.

Isaiah 63:7  I will recount the steadfast love of the LORD, the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD has granted us, and the great goodness to the house of Israel that he has granted them according to his compassion, according to the abundance of his steadfast love.

Lamentations 3:21-24  But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”

Hebrews 11:8-10 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.
